The problem with this movie derives from its need put a scare in every scene which becomes predictable. The scares devolve into these music driven boring fear fests that get shoved down the viewers throat that need to happen to every character. Another problem is that this film is plot driven ad opposed to character driven. Some characters are just there for comic relief and others exist to make Pennywises "death" more believable. And every character acts like nothing happened directly after a scare. If real people were in this situation they wouldn't charge in head first to attack a demon clown because their friends brother died, no one is that brave and because of this plot driven story few characters have half decent motivations. The end of the movie devolved into an action thriller, with the kids going to attack pennywise, yes kids kill a clown lievable right? The final 2 minutes of this movies is a setup for the sequel so that the studio can make larger heaping piles of money. 3/10.

I loved Stephen King's book back in the day. The 1990 TV mini-series was great for it's time; but not phenomenal by today's standards. This current adaptation is fantastic! I have been waiting for quite some time to see the release of this film, and I was not disappointed! It is a horror film, but with with a heavy dose of drama. The character development is well done, and the story is far more immersive than the original. Very creepy, very fun! A. They should have called this "inspired by" instead of "adapted from" the Stephen King's book. I understand that they can't fit everything into a movie, otherwise it would have been a 10-20 hours, so they have to cut most of the not very important parts of the books, but I never understand when they change things, and in this case they even add some events that were not in the book, and it wasn't necessary for the plot either. I won't spoil the movie or the book, but if you've read the book, you'll understand, and you won't like the changes and additions. If you haven't read the book, go and read it, you'll understand.
Also, I've got chills when I was reading the book, but in the movie it was like an action movie to me. It was not scary at all. I was expecting a darker movie.
That being said, acting and cinematography was good. That's why it's not lower than 5 stars. If you haven't read the book, you might enjoy this movie.
